Why would you want to wear a kavach filled with Vrindavan Dust?

Your first question might be, “What is Vrindavan Dust?”

And rightly so because most people outside of Vrindavan, or the Krishna Consciousness movement, would not understand all the buzz about Vrindavan Dust, and the important roll it fills in the hearts of so many devotees.

"My parents went to the Holy Land and all I got was a vial of dirt!"

Holy Dust from sacred places is nothing new. For thousands of years pilgrims to holy sites seek to bring a piece of the sacredness back home with them.

Bringing Back Keepsakes from Holy Places is Nothing New

Christian to Jerusalem will bring back a vial of the “Holy Land” soil. Hoping to capture and keep the atmosphere of the Holy city of Jerusalem where Jesus met with his disciples for one last time and prayed with them. A blessed keepsake of their own pilgrimage.

Vrindavan Dust goes above a step of being a pilgrim’s keepsake of a lifetime’s journey.

“There are three powerful forms of Srimati Radharani’s mercy in Vrindavan – the dust of Vrindavan, Govardhan hill, and the holy waters of the Yamuna. One who comes into contact with these forms of the Lord’s love becomes greatly purified.” ~Radhanath Swami

People come to Vrindavan just to roll in the sacred dust of Vrindavan, which is mixed with the dust of devotees and the dust of the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha Krishna and their eternal friends.

In Vrindavan, everything is conscious, every aspect is pure consciousness. Every grain of dust is considered a conscious living being, eternally meditating on making itself extremely soft, fragrant, and beautiful for the feet of the Lord who walks there.

What is Vrindavan Dust and why is it so sacred?

In the spiritual realm, the highest and holiest of places is Vrindavan. It is Vrindavan, where Krishna made his supreme home. Since Krishna is holy, his home, Vrindavan is holy and therefore, the dust of Vrindavan, which does not differ from Krishna, is also holy.

  • “Because Vrindavan Dust is not different from Krishna, when you take a little dust from Vrindavan Dhama, it means you are taking dust from Krishna’s lotus feet” (Shrila Prabhupada, Tape 75/89)
  • “The dust of Govinda’s (another name for Krishna) lotus feet is so sacred that even Brahma, Shiva and the goddess of fortune Rama take the dust on their heads to dispel sinful reactions.” (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.30.29)
  • All worship “The dust of Krishna’s lotus feet, which is the source of holiness for all places of pilgrimage the great demigods. The principal deities of all planets are engaged in His service, and they consider themselves most fortunate to take the dust of the lotus feet of Krishna on their crowns.” (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.68.37)
